Split Bolt Connectors line drawing

Brass split bolts, also known as Brass line taps or split bolt connectors, are specialized electrical connectors used to join or splice two or more electrical conductors together. These connectors are commonly used in applications where a reliable and secure electrical connection is required.

The design of Brass split bolts typically consists of a cylindrical body with a split along its length. They also have a central threaded hole where the conductors are inserted and a bolt or set screw to tighten and secure the connection.

Here’s how Brass split bolts work:

  1. Insertion of Conductors: The conductors to be connected are placed into the split bolt’s central opening. The split in the bolt allows the conductors to be easily inserted without having to thread them through.
  2. Tightening: Once the conductors are inserted, the bolt or set screw is tightened. As the bolt is tightened, it compresses the sides of the split bolt, clamping the conductors securely in place.

Brass split bolts are commonly used in various electrical applications, including:

  • Joining or splicing overhead electrical wires in utility and power distribution systems.
  • Connecting electrical grounding wires and cables.
  • Splicing conductors in electrical panels or junction boxes.
  • Connecting grounding conductors to equipment or structures.

Advantages of using Brass split bolts include:

  1. Electrical Conductivity: Brass is a good conductor of electricity, ensuring efficient power transfer through the connector.
  2. Corrosion Resistance: Brass split bolts are resistant to corrosion, making them suitable for outdoor and harsh environments.
  3. Mechanical Strength/strong>: Brass provides sturdy and reliable connections, ensuring long-lasting performance.
  4. Versatility: Brass split bolts are available in various sizes to accommodate different conductor sizes.
  5. Easy Installation: Split bolts are easy to install and do not require special tools for connection.

As with any electrical connection, it’s crucial to ensure that the appropriate size and type of Brass split bolt are used based on the conductor size and the specific application’s requirements.

CONEX manufactures a vast range of split bolts connectors line taps to meet the material and dimensional specification laid by different International standards.

  • Brass line taps split bolts are made with high tensile Brass as per BS 2874 -CZ 112. Threads are formed by rolling process giving the nut extra clamping force.
  • Pressure pads are made from extruded bars (NOT CAST), preventing the pads from cracking.
  • Brass copper line taps Split bolts Split connectors are in natural brass and electro-tinned finish.
  • Brass Split Bolt Connectors Line Taps Split Bolts Also supplied in high conductivity Copper.
